Repair & maintenance

Repair rather than replace

A window that sticks, lets in draughts or mists up between the panes does not necessarily need replacing. We adjust, repair and refresh your windows and doors in wood, PVC or aluminium, even older ones. It is quicker, cheaper, and they are good for many more years.

The tell-tale signs

Your window is talking to you

It sticks or rubsThe sash has dropped or the hardware has gone out of adjustment: an adjustment is often enough.
DraughtsSquashed or hardened seals no longer do their job: we replace them.
Condensation between the panesThe insulating glass unit has lost its seal: we replace the glass, not the window.
Tired lookYellowed PVC, greyed wood, scratches: we repair and refresh the surface.

1 · Our services

From small repairs to full restoration

Hardware adjustment

The sash sticks, closes badly or no longer tilts: we adjust and lubricate the hardware so it closes like on day one.

Seals

Replacement of squashed or hardened seals: no more draughts, whistling or some of the outside noise.

Misted or broken glass

We replace only the glass, with modern, better-insulating glazing, and can take the opportunity to switch to laminated or acoustic glass.

Handles and fittings

Broken or loose handles, espagnolettes, keeps, door closers: replacement, and lockable handles for more security.

PVC repair

Dents, scratches, screw holes, damaged corners: covered with RENOLIT repair film in the exact colour, without removing the window. Our team is trained by RENOLIT.

RENOLIT foiling

A coloured film applied to your PVC windows: plain colour, wood finish or aluminium look, for a new look without replacing everything.

Polishing out glass scratches

Scratches, grinder marks or spatter: sanded and polished on site with a Mirka sander, without replacing the glass.

Wooden windows

Sanding, replacing parts damaged by moisture, new stain or paint: the wood regains its protection and its looks.

Rolls of RENOLIT EXOFOL repair film

RENOLIT repair film, applied over the damage

Most coloured or wood-finish PVC windows are covered with a RENOLIT film. When this film is scratched, dented or damaged at a corner, we do not replace the profile: we apply a piece of RENOLIT EXOFOL repair film over it, in the same colour or wood finish as the original.

  • Self-adhesive film : a very strong acrylic adhesive, stable against UV and ageing, applied directly to the profile.
  • All the original colours : plain colours, greys, anthracite and wood finishes from the RENOLIT range.
  • Four films (EXOFOL MR, PR, FR and PFR) depending on the surface and type of damage.
  • No removal : the window stays in place, the repair is barely visible.

A RENOLIT-trained company. These repair films are reserved for professionals who have completed RENOLIT Film Service training. Our team has completed it: we apply the manufacturer’s method, with its original films and tools.

The same film can also be used to change the colour of a white PVC window completely.

PrepareClean and degrease the area, level the dent or scratch.
CutA piece of RENOLIT film in the exact colour, slightly larger than the damage.
Apply and smoothThe film is applied and smoothed with a squeegee to push out the air and stick the edges down firmly.
ResultThe profile regains its original surface, without removal or painting.

Example: an HST lift-and-slide door damaged during construction

The sash and frame of a large lift-and-slide door in Earl platinum finish, scratched and dented. Repaired on site with RENOLIT film in the same finish: the door stayed in place.

3 · Polishing out glass scratches

Scratched glass becomes clear again

A scratch left by building work, grinder spatter or over-vigorous cleaning does not mean the end of the glazing. We wet-sand the area with a Mirka sander and progressively finer abrasives, then polish the glass until the surface is perfectly clear again.

  • On site : the glass stays in the window, no removal or replacement.
  • Progressive abrasives : Abranet P180 and P360 to remove the scratch, Abralon P600 to refine.
  • Final polishing with a felt pad and Mirka Polarshine E3 compound, designed for glass, including toughened glass.
  • Much more economical than replacing the glass, especially on large openings and triple glazing.

Very deep scratches, where a fingernail catches strongly, or scratches covering a large area may leave a slight distortion: in that case we will honestly advise you to replace the glass.

LocateThe scratch is marked and the surrounding area protected; the glass is wetted.
SandMirka sander, P180 then P360 abrasives wet: the scratch disappears, the glass turns matt.
RefineAbralon P600 abrasive: the surface becomes even and almost transparent.
PolishFelt pad and Polarshine E3 compound: the glass becomes clear and shiny again.

4 · Wood and heritage windows

Saving what can be saved

Renovation of heritage wooden windows

A well-built wooden window can almost always be repaired. We replace damaged parts, redo the putty and stain, adjust or replace the hardware, and can add seals for extra comfort.

  • Wooden parts reproduced identically: weatherboard, bottom rail, glazing bars.
  • Glazing re-puttied, or replaced with better-insulating glass in the same frame where possible.
  • Period hardware kept, repaired or reproduced.
  • Finish : sanding, stain or paint in the original colour.

When the window can no longer be saved, we make an identical replacement. View historic renovation
